Breedlove Atlas Series contains a number of different basses, including ABJ250/SM4, which is done with the body of Jumbo Breedlove (combat seventeen inch lowest, with five-inch body depth at the tail block and a depth of four inches from the body at the heel) with a soft cutaway. The top is solid spruce Sitka, while / Back sides are mahogany. The combination of Sitka spruce and mahogany results in a deep, soft sound.
In addition, the acoustic bass guitar produces decent volume as a result of the huge mass (not to mention the JLD Bridge Truss system – one few acoustic bass guitars with the factory installed). One of the biggest complaints about acoustic bass guitars is that they do not have the volume needed to play without an amplifier. The ABJ250/SM is not strong by any means, but the volume is enough to play unplugged with perhaps two or three other guitars / mandolin / banjo, but with more bass than would be defeated.
What I like about this acoustic bass guitar is it clear note separation. I even used a pick and made a bit of bluegrass flatpicking, and although you can expect a wall of the truncated low through the notes cleanly.
