is there anything odd about an adult using a student sized guitar?

i’m taking a guitar class at my university, and i dont really have the cash to buy a new guitar, and the only one i have is from when i was a kid is a student sized guitar. I do have pretty small hands too, but would it impair my learning in any way? Do you think it would be really strange for me to use a smaller guitar?

As long as your instructor has no objections, it shouldn’t be an issue. Many people play parlor size guitars that are almost the same as the 3/4 size guitars. There are guitar orchestras where people deliberately play Quintos and Requintos (guitars tuned a fourth or a fifth higher than the standard size guitar) and the idea that the guitar only comes in one size is a relatively modern one. I would definitely let your instructor know in advance if possible, but if the instrument is otherwise functional it should not be an issue.
