Want to learn to play guitar? Don'T Be Shy – Four good reasons to think!
Too many people learn to play guitar – or any other instrument for that matter – locked in their bedroom or garage. Then they could become great players of their own, they move on. Here is some good reasons to stop hiding and come out!
You more
It does not matter how much you practice, how many solos you listen, how many books you read, or how many online guitar tutorials follow you, you're sure to learn more by meeting and performing with other musicians. Every guitar player has learned a few tricks, and have their favorite riffs. Some of them will be more easier than you think, if you can see someone play in front of you. Most musicians are more than happy to show you too – it's a way to show what they know, and we all love to do, we like it or not.
Also, no matter how novice you are, you are required to respond to someone who does not know your favorite things, and if you can teach something to another player, it's good!
You'll be better prepared
Some people are really good to play by themselves (I told themselves – stop making your own jokes …), but never played in front of anyone. They "stage fright" just playing with some other musicians. This can be a real problem if you want to start giving concerts one day.
Once you can play something, play in front of people. Friends, family, and other musicians also. If you're really shy, start with the dog!
I know from personal experience that this can be a real problem, so the sooner you cope better. If you need to drink so calm your nerves that you can hold the guitar, it will not work! When you learn to play the guitar, you must learn to be a show-off too! Of course, if you are already a show-off, with a big ego, who enjoys the attention more than music – and, perhaps you should become a singer …
You will not waste your time
Remember the music is intended not only to play but to be heard. Who gives a monkey if you're the best player on the planet, if nobody sees you never play? When you tell people you play the guitar, they are generally not seeking registration of your best solos. They usually say "Cool, you're in a band? Are you playing any gigs?". Of course, if you're a singer-songwriter solo, you do not need a group, but you still need an audience.
You'll have fun
You are probably not a Trappist monk, if you do not need to sit in a room in silence. You're probably not the study an MA in music theory, if you do not need to treat your guitar like a text book. Meet some like-minded people, have a laugh, share a few jokes, tell some stories. You may never go as far as live concerts, but shooting the breeze with some other musicians and a few beers one night beats in a bar every day. It will broaden your horizons in many different ways, even if you do not play as a hobby. You never know, a bass player you meet you may end up being a great job one day.
In summary, the best thing you can do for your guitar playing, almost from day one, is to join a group and start playing concerts. You get the buzz, make friends, be ready for anything, and experience will increase your musicality higher than what you can do alone.

Hendrix $3.95 Most television movies about real-life rock & roll heroes are a deadening mix of biographical bullet-points and sensational recreations of outrĂ© behavior. Rarely does the essence of a pop artist, great or otherwise, come into focus within the spuriously tragic atmosphere of the kind of TV bio-pic that has made fools of the likes of the Beach Boys and John Lennon. Happily, that’s not the ca… |
