Looking for advice on acoustic guitar purchase?

I have an Alvarez now, but am looking to upgrade a bit. I’m not going to spend over $400-$500. I’d like some opinions on the Epiphone Hummingbird, Masterbilt, John Lennon. Others you may recommend? Does an electric acoustic lack deep rich sound? Any suggestions on strings? What’s the best bargain out there?

First off the sound is generated from many different things, such as the depth of the guitar, and the hole. or holes size and arrangement, also the wood type has something to do with it. So to answer that question, an electric acoustic can have the same sound as a conventional acoustic, but I have found that if you add a pickup to an acoustic, then you sacrafice some of the sound gualities do to a restristion in the hole. Personally on your suggestions, I think that the Epiphone has the best sound, but you should look at Yamaha, and Carvin, they both make some really good sounding instroments for around your price range. If you can only spend $400.00-$500.00 then maybe wait on the electric acoustic until you can spend more, you can always mike it if you need to. Also try looking at some used stuff, sometimes you can get a deal, but be careful, and have it checked out. Most places will check it out for almost nothing. One of my favorite g8tars I bought at a garage sale for $50.00 and it is a noname, but it sound great, I only orriginally bought it for camping trips, and summr night bon fires that I didn’t want to take my expensive one to. Probebly the most important thing to rememberis to get one with the sound that YOU want.
